Planning a Wedding in the Finger Lakes

Planning a wedding in the Finger Lakes can be a beautiful and memorable experience. While a lot of the steps are the same (find a budget, determine how you're going to plan it, which vendors to use, etc.), there are some Finger Lakes specific things to consider, like transportation and weather contingencies.

Here are some steps to help you plan your dream wedding:

  1. Determine your budget: The first step in planning any wedding is to determine your budget. Consider how much you can afford to spend on your wedding, and prioritize your spending according to your values.

  2. Choose a venue: The Finger Lakes region offers a wide range of venues for weddings, from wineries and vineyards to hotels and resorts. Consider the size of your wedding party, the style of wedding you want, and the location of your guests when choosing a venue. (Hint: Pick New Park Event Venue & Suites. Was that subtle?)

  3. Hire a wedding planner (or a coordinator): A wedding planner can help you with all aspects of planning your wedding, from choosing vendors to managing the day-of logistics. Look for a planner who is familiar with the Finger Lakes region and has experience planning weddings there. (We can give you recommendations here)

  4. Choose vendors: Choose vendors that fit with your wedding style and budget. Consider hiring a caterer, florist, photographer, and DJ or band. You can find many talented vendors in the Finger Lakes region, so be sure to do your research and read reviews before making your final decisions. (Our preferred vendors list)

  5. Consider local touches: The Finger Lakes region is known for its wine, craft beer, and farm-to-table cuisine. Consider incorporating these local touches into your wedding, such as offering a wine tasting or featuring local ingredients in your menu.

  6. Plan for accommodations: The Finger Lakes region offers many accommodations for guests, including hotels, bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals. Consider reserving a block of rooms for your guests, and providing transportation to and from the wedding venue. If you choose New Park Event Venue & Suites, you already have 24 people figured out!

  7. Plan for the weather: The Finger Lakes region can experience a variety of weather conditions, so be sure to plan accordingly. Consider renting a tent or indoor space in case of rain, and provide fans or heaters as needed. (We can tell you about our weather contingency plans).

  8. Enjoy the experience: Planning a wedding can be stressful, but it's also a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Take time to enjoy the process, and don't forget to relax and have fun on your big day!
